For years Lithuania has been known for having a lot of bad stereotypes, one of which is LGBT people facing legal and social challenges in everyday life. But today is a bit different. Today people from whole Baltic region have come here, to Vilnius, to celebrate diversity and peace. People that gathered here are sending a message not only for the government but to every single person in Lithuania, saying that Lithuania is ready for change.
I had an opportunity to talk to some of the people here at the parade. And a lot of them seem positive about the changes that have been happening in Lithuania for the past few years. They stated that there are a lot of false stereotypes about LGBT community in our society. One of the girls I talked to was really happy about how LGBT community has been growing over the past few years here in Lithuania. But some of the people weren’t really happy about the whole situation saying that the change I happening only on the outside and there still is a lot of problems that need fixing in our society.
Those were the few thoughts about LGBT community from people that came to the parade today. By the looks of it, Lithuania is breaking the old stereotypes of very conservative country and is slowly moving towards the more libertarian country image.
